School year 2015-2016

There will be no afterschool classes in our facility until January 2016.

Please check back for new schedule and details.

LEGO® Building & Robotics After School Programs

Based on the LEGO® Education curriculum, we offer after school enrichment classes designed to stimulate creativity, problem-solving skills, and collaboration. Children will learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) while creating a variety of structures.

5:30-6:30 Stop Motion Animation Class Ages 6-13

Students will use innovative software to combine the power of PC and stop-motion animation to bring LEGO® figures and objects to life. Creating stop-motion animation not only encourages the development of story-telling, it also provides an opportunity for kids to use the PC as a movie production tool. Each child will create a film based on his/her own vision and imagination. Throughout the week they will work on their draft and the official film will be recorded on a DVD for them to keep and enjoy.

Lights, Camera, Action… Create Stop Motion Animation DVDs & Your Own Comic Books
Wait. Did they just say “Comic Book”? That’s AWESOME!
In this class, students will be given the opportunity to tell stories through the art of photography. Students will be able to build their own story, not only with pictures, but with real life Legos! Come create amazing stories, express your imagination, and gain a base for photographic storytelling!

Option A: 8 – 1hr classes for $144

Option B: Individual classes for $25 each

We recommend children attend at least 6 classes in order to complete a short movie. Thousands of pictures are required to create a movie. We save pictures from class to class, but if your child misses 2 or more classes before completing their movie, we can’t guarantee their pictures will still be here.

6:00pm-7:00pm (Time change as of 3/19) LEGO® Machines and Robots Ages 6-13

STEM, hands on learning, while having fun.

In this class, students will work as scientists, engineers, and designers. Through the investigation of simple and motorized machines, the use of gears and sensors, and through programming the robots they build, they will learn the basics of physics and the concepts behind real machines.
They will build out of LEGO® bricks, test and explore machines and mechanisms, investigate motorized machines, calibrate and capture wind, study gearing mechanisms, alternative energy and more.
In the robotics part of the class children will be able to build the actual model out of LEGO® bricks and program their models featuring working motors, motion and tilt sensors and sounds by using software on our computers. Students will build a firm base of understanding from which to expand their robotics learning.

All models are for in class use only. Students can take pictures of the projects they completed.

Option A: 8 – 1hr classes for $144

Option B: Individual classes for $25 each

5:30-7:00 LEGO® Mindstorms Robotics Ages 9-14

In this class we will use robotics to bring science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to life! This curriculum supports robotics students, with emphasis on programming. Each of the projects begins with a robotics research prototype in which students are guided step-by-step through the building and programming of a new robot behavior. They will be earning stripes for each completed challenge. Students from this class will have the opportunity to join our First LEGO® Team. This class is for students who completed our beginner class/camp or have knowledge of programming of basic sensors.

Option A: 8 – 1 1/2hr classes for $296

Option B: Individual classes for $50 each

We recommend children attend at least 6 classes to learn basic sensor programming. Building our basic robot takes approx. 1-1/2 hr. Mindstorms Robotics students work on the same robots throughout the course, but if your child misses 2 or more classes in a row, it will be disassembled. Returning to class in a later time will mean they need to rebuild the basic robot to begin again.

11:30am-12:10pm Young Scientists Building LEGO® Machines Ages 5-7

Students will build simple machines such as seesaw, rolling vehicle, spinning top, and many more. In these models they experience pulleys, levers, gears, wheels and axles. They will test and evaluate their machines. Key learning targets: measuring, timing, counting, estimating, modeling in two and three dimensions, positions, directions and ways of movement, properties of materials, and energy.

Option A: 8 – 40 minute classes for $96

Option B: Individual classes for $16 each
